Services - Boarding

Comprehensive Boarding

Westar Farms is pleased to offer a comprehensive full-board program for $650/month. Board includes the following services:

• Experienced, knowledgeable management team on-site each day.
• Maintenance of one of 21 indoor rubber-matted box stalls which are ventilated 24 hours a day with a fan system controlling temperature and humidity.
• Feed ~ 3 x per day, vitamins & vitamin E/selenium, plus electrolytes in summer months.
• Administration of herd health and blacksmith program.
• Turnout individual or pairs with booting, blanketing, and fly spray for summer turnout.
• Tack/storage locker for each boarded horse.
• Light grooming for blanketing.
• Access to indoor heated wash stall and 2 outdoor summer wash stalls.

Boarder Training Programs

Some horse owners choose to half-lease their horses with each person paying half of the monthly expenses. Both boarders and ‘half-boarders’ receive discounted lessons. All boarders and half-boarders must take a minimum of 4 group lessons per month ($150 for boarders / $160 for half-boarders). Semi-private ($180/$190) or private lessons ($200/$210) may be booked in addition to group lessons, but not instead of the groups. Training programs are tailored to suit individual needs and can be altered to suit the rider’s schedules.

Clipping, Trimming and Braiding Service

Horses can be clipped (trace, body, blanket clip etc.) or trimmed (legs, ears, face, mane pull etc.) as requested and braiding for horse shows is available.

Administration of Herd Health and Blacksmith Visits

Westar Farms employs the services of a ‘farm vet’ -- Ottawa Valley Large Animal Clinic (OVLAC) Dr. Larry Butler DVM -- and a ‘farm blacksmith’, Terry Osborne. Boarders are welcome to use any vet or blacksmith they may choose. As part of the boarding service, Westar coordinates and books all regular inoculations, bi-monthly wormings, teeth floating and any other routine herd health maintenance visits on behalf of its boarders using the services of OVLAC. We also book the regular blacksmith visits for those using Terry Osborne who provides regular services on a weekly basis. Horses are presented for the vet and blacksmith by Westar staff. Wherever extra staff time is required to hold a horse or other assistance to the vet or blacksmith, a charge is applied.
